ABC’s RN program states, “The Great Resignation is also being fuelled by fundamental shifts in how people think about the role of work in their lives. Many people are choosing to move away from ambition, to emphasise other aspects of life.  They are embracing "career downsizing" — looking for a job involving fewer hours or something with less responsibility and less stress.”
So, this should all point to more candidates it the marketplace, and easier recruiting, right? Â More people leaving their jobs, more people applying for jobs? Â
No, it hasn’t worked like that.  Sorry to burst the bubble.
We are seeing the toughest market we have ever seen – the pandemic has made people really think about their jobs, what they are looking for in an employer and even a massive shift in relocations.
This means that it is so important to attract candidates – what makes you stand out?  Why are you an employer of choice? Why should people uproot their family and move to your area?  What can you offer in terms of balance? Â
Have you thought about the job structure? Â Why are people turning down your job offers? Â Is it hours of work? Â Is it the pay? Is it the area? Is it the responsibility? Â What can you change in your role to make it more appealing to job seekers? Â Can you replace one full time position with two? Â
However, to get to this stage, you actually need to attract candidates in the first place!!  Here are some ideas, give them a try.  You don’t need to outlay lots of money, you just need to track where your applications are coming from and see what is working.  Seek is awesome, however you need people looking for the jobs there in the first place – Seek doesn’t target those passive job seekers that the newspaper used to target.
Videos tend to work really well – lots of candidates seem to like them, and you can promote them in places that you don’t normally promote recruitment ads (like boosting posts on Instagram and Facebook). Â
Last year we arranged for these “whiteboard” videos for HRD – they ranged from $150-300 each, and were a more cost effective way for us to put a video together.  This is an option for your recruitment videos to see if they get traction without having to outlay $1000’s.

In regard to the content, it is more about the “why” work for you – rather than the role.  This way you can use it in more than one campaign.

Another idea is to do a Google Ads campaign.  – you can see an example below for Defence Force Recruiting.  This is the new way to attract those passive job seekers. Â
You could link the ad to your Career page on your website.
We have a digital manager that is able to assist with Google Ads if you need help with it.
If you are interested in implementing any of these ideas, we can help you with the next steps.
